Can you deal with not having children?

For many, California is seen as an adequate place to raise children. However, just because you have a suitable place to start a family doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll want to have kids. It’s also possible that you won’t be able to raise children of your own even if you want to. In some cases, that can cause negative emotions such as regret and resentment.

Everyone is different

Your views on parenting are uniquely yours and should be considered valid regardless of what they are. It’s also valid to vacillate between being upset that you don’t have kids and being at peace with your current circumstances. For example, you may generally not worry about being childless but change your stance on the issue for a few days after spending time with a young niece or nephew.

Being a parent doesn’t define you

It’s fairly common for individuals to feel as if they are supposed to have children and that they are incomplete without them. However, the truth is that you aren’t defined by whether or not you have a child. Instead, you are defined by a multitude of factors such as your personality and professional accomplishments. If you are unable to have children naturally, it may be possible to enter into a surrogacy and donation agreement to create a son or daughter for you to raise.

While surrogacy may be an effective way to conceive a child, it is not something that you do on a whim. Instead, you are encouraged to strongly consider the legal and ethical consequences of doing so. Furthermore, you should consider your own fitness to be a mother or father both now and for the next 18 years.
